Fredericton has an incredible amount of festivals for a city its size. 
Attending any of the festivals listed below is a great way to teach kids about history, other cultures, music or different sports. Below see listings for events from February 2007-December 2007:

Festival Francophone de Fredericton- Francophone culture and heritage is celebrated through exhibits, concerts, dining, sports, special events and activities at Le Centre communautaire Sainte-Anne. For more information visit website: www.centre-sainte-anne.nb.ca.

Maritime Countryfest- 2006 was the first year for this new annual Country Music Festival. Under a big top tent, in downtown's Historic Garrison District. Seven acts over two days including a free show in Officers Square, featuring some of the best New

JUNE


International Trails Day--
TCT Pavilion(southside) and the Trail Visitor Centre( northside). Trail Etiquette and Safety - TCT Pavilion(southside) & the Trail Visitor Centre( northside), 10am-1pm. The theme for this year is Trail Etiquette and Safety. As part of the activities Free Bicycle Bells will be given to those cyclists who bring their bikes to these sites. Free draws of trail related items ,sale of trail merchandise and distribution of Trail Guides for Fredericton and the provincial trails. NB Trails reps will be enrolling trail users in their Passport to Wellness campaign which is a means of getting citizens more active. For more information, contact:

 Annual Fredericton River Festival (June)-Come and celebrate one of Canada's most important rivers!  Revel in the fun, the history, heritage and culture that is the St. John River, as it flows through beautiful Fredericton!  Three days of celebration include: races, paddles, demonstrations, exhibits and concerts all to celebrate the river.  Display your canoe, play in the Amazing River Race, participate in the Free Family Paddle and feast on food and music all weekend long. Canadian Rivers Day (June 10)- Bucket Club & Carleton Park- Free Family Paddle, Bucket Club & Carleton Park, 11am – 3pm. Free. If you own a canoe or a kayak, join us for a meandering paddle down the river. Don’t own one? Borrow one for free from the Bucket Club! Launch from the Bucket Club in Silverwood, paddling to Carleton Park on Fredericton’s north side for “Après Paddle” activities and a Free Barbeque for participants provided by Business Fredericton North. Woolastook Bluegrass Festival (June )- Three days of bluegrass music from NB and as far away as South Carolina & Virginia at the Woolastook Family Campground, 5171 Route 102, Exit 258 off New Trans-Canada Highway.  Annual River Jam-Three stages of various musical styles, from folk/bluegrass to rhythum & blues and classic rock, performed by an array of talent from the St. John River Valley who donate their time to support community projects. For more information, phone:  (506) 363-4538; e-mail River Jam.

JULY

Canada Day Block Party- July 1-full day of fun kicks off at noon; Canada Day Parade and fireworks at dusk.On the Green, next to the Lighthouse. For more information: phone: (506) 453-9428.

Atlantic Crew Classic Rowing Regatta- Junior and senior rowing competitions, as well as a masters competitions and a corporate challenge. Location: St. John River, Small Craft Aquatic Centre. For more information, phone: (506) 453-9428.

NB Highland Games & Scottish Festival Highland Games- this festival hosts over 350 pipers and drummers, 150 Highland dancers and features every aspect of Scottish culture you can imagine. Experience Scottish culture through music, games, food and drink on the beautiful grounds of historic Old Government House.  A fun-filled family weekend packed with bagpipes, drums, fiddles, Celtic music, highland dance, Gaelic language and of course the best tasting Scottish treats!  Be a Scot for the weekend! AUGUST 

NotaBle Acts Summer Theatre Festival-
A showcase of new and innovative theatre.  Exciting street theatre performed downtown is accompanied nightly by dynamic and topical main-stage.  The festival showcases the work of both new and noted playwrights from NB and beyond. For more information, visit website: www.unbf.ca/nbacts.

Folk Days at Kings Landing Historical Settlement- Celebrate the music, tales and dance of the colonial farmers, lumberjacks and farm wives who built Canada.Kings Landing Historical Settlement, Exit 253 TC Hwy, 15 min west of Fredericton. NB Summer Chamber Music Festival- The finest classical music festival in Eastern Canada with chamber music concerts featuring the works of selected composers played by outstanding classical musicians from across Canada.  Also includes lectures, noon Church Series, and children's art workshop.  Performed in Memorial Hall on the UNB campus. Agriculture Fair at Kings Landing-A 19th century Commnity Fair with games, competitions and entertainment, as well as an agricultural exhibition featuring hand-crafted, home-cooked and hand-picked work of the early settlers. For more information, visit website:  www.kingslanding.nb.ca.

SEPTEMBER :

New Brunswick Fine Crafts Festival- The premier fine crafts festival in NB held annually for more than 30 years.  In the heart of downtown Fredericton, juried members of the NB Crafts Council offer the best in pottery, textiles, glass, wood, soaps, candles, jewellery, metal, wrought iron, clothing, food, baskets and much more.  Officers' Square, Historic Garrison District. Fredericton Exhibiton- Fredericton Exhibition Grounds, Smythe Street.  A tradition since 1827, the FREX is fun for all ages. This week-long special event features an agricultural show, draft horse show, provincial Holstein and Jersey show, harness racing, stage shows and commercial exhibits along with lots of carnival games and carnival food including the famous "dippy dog". Kids will love the midway rides, aerial and clown shows, petting zoo, pony rides and much more.   Gates open at 9am, Midway and Building open at 12:00 noon (Sunday - Saturday.)


Feast In The Field: The Ultimate Barbeque Challenge-
Enjoy an afternoon of entertainment, sampling wine, beer and spirits from around the world, as well as delicacies prepared by Fredericton's leading restaurants and chefs. The McInnes Cooper Dragon Boat Festival- The McInnis Cooper Dragon Boat Festival is a fundraising event that will benefit the development and growth of Amateur Sport in New Brunswick through KidSport program and amateur athletes. The McInnes Cooper Dragon Boat Festival will be held on Sunday, September 9th at the Small Craft Aquatic Center in Fredericton. Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival outdoor concert-
Atlantic Canada's biggest celebration of jazz, blues and world music was rated Atlantic Canadas Best Cultural Event by Progress Magazine.   The streets come alive for Atlantic Canada's largest celebration of jazz, blues and world music.  Five days and nights, 135 performers, 350 artists, two dozen intimate stages, in only five historic downtown blocks.  World class, regional and local performers.  Maritime hospitality in Festival venues like tents, parks, the Playhouse, markets, churches, pubs and bars. Stanley Community Fair- Longest continually running fair in Canada! Something for everyone! An agricultural display with flowers, vegetables, quilts, baking, arts & crafts and children works, also a domestic animal display.  Horse hauls on Friday and Saturday, variety show, musical entertainment, baby contest, canteen and theatre.  Dance on Saturday evening featuring the Downtown Blues Band at 9pm, tickets $12 each. Annual Latino Arts & Film Festival- Screening of three Spanish language films with English subtitles (from Brazil, Argentina, and an Oscar award winning film from Spain), photography, Latino artists, music, and traditional food. Temperance in a Teapot- Kings Landing re-creates a tempestuous time in New Brunswick's history, when a controversial law to prohibit liquor was introduced in 1855.  Will the new law devaste the economy, or is it best to outlaw the 'demon rum'?  Decide for yourself! OCTOBER :

Thanksgiving Festival, Kings Landing Historical Settlement- Join the costumed staff in the historic homes as they prepare for winter. Take part in Traditional Turkey dinners at the Kings Head Inn, a turkey shoot, a Harvest Service at the church, and buy garden produce and homemade goods at the Country Auction on Sunday afternoon. 11th Annual Whiskey, Spirits & Liqueur Festival- Thursday masterclasses by some of the world's leading authorities on whiskies & cognacs offer nosing techniques. Friday evening festival offers some of the world's finest Spirits, Single Malt Whiskies, blended Scotches, cognacs, brandies, rums, gins and liqueurs. Enjoy samplings and take in informative seminars by experts to learn more about your favourite libations.  Annual Silver Wave Film Festival- Experience the vibrancy of the local filmmaking community.  Over 70 films by local, national, and international filmmakers.  Featuring some of the best documentaries from Canada and the US, award winning films from the Toronto International Film Festival, and special guests.  Hosted by the NB Filmmakers' Co-operative. Kinsmen Santa Claus Parade- Annual lighted Christmas parade to welcome Santa Claus. Route: Starting from FREX grounds out on Smythe Street, to King Street, King to Regent Street, out Regent to Queen Street, up Queen to finish on the FREX grounds. Alternates from Northside to Southside yearly.

Christmas in the Village- You are invited to the Village of Gagetown's  Annual Christmas in the Village  Studios and shops will be open from 10 am to 5 pm both days. Have fun while shopping for arts, crafts and antiques and enjoy good food all day. Open House at the Queens County Museum. Look for craft demonstrations. Take part in a Treasure Hunt. Look out for Santa Claus and carollers.
